At SBL practicing sports is a lifestyle

Sport at Online Schools? At SBL it’s a lifestyle

Have you ever thought about how to practice sports in an online school?

School Beyond Limitations is a holistic school that nourishes the wellbeing of the entire human being. One important part of this wellbeing is also the physical wellbeing. How can we achieve physical wellbeing that eventually results in emotional and mental wellbeing?

Achieving physical wellbeing requires an all-embracing approach that help students understand that physical movement should be embedded in their daily lives. This is what School Beyond Limitations is catering for during lessons and beyond.

We believe that children, teenagers and adults should be engaged in sport activities on a daily basis. The more practicing a sport activity becomes a habit in a person’s life, the more likely it is that this person will live a balanced life.

The benefits of practicing sports on a daily basis are evident. Research has suggested that sport has the potential to accomplish three important objectives in children’s development (Côté & Fraser-Thomas).

First, sport activities can provide youth with opportunities to be physically active, which in turn can lead to improved physical health.

Second, practicing sport equally enhances a person’s psychosocial development, providing opportunities to learn important life skills such as cooperation, discipline, leadership, and self-control.

Third, practicing sport is also critical for the learning of motor skills at a larger scale.

This is the reason why it is important to give sports the space it needs in and outside the school context. We constantly invite students to learn that sport is a lifestyle and as such it should never be neglected as it belongs to the basic needs of a human being.

It is important that students develop a sense of passion for the sport. That is why sport activities will have to be part of the daily lessons as well as after school time.

Sports is part of our lives. It is a key element for wellbeing. It is a language of personal expression. While one student may flourish in the gym, the other may feel in a state of flow while dancing, running, swimming or hiking. School Beyond Limitations is doing anything to showcase that there are different ways of implementing physical exercises into the students’ personal lives.

We aim for our young people

  • to develop their physical and motor capacities to lead active and healthy lives;
  • to provide them with ‘sblonthemove’ opportunities that ignite them to move beyond school hours,
  • to experience an increasing desire to make physical activity a lifelong habit;
  • to understand and overcome barriers to physical activity;
  • to overcome frustration – physical exercise can be seen as an opportunity to relieve stress and to regain psychological balance;
  • to create an environment that gives physical exercise the attention it deserves for each and everyone to live a balanced life.

May our students benefit from a school setting where physical exercise is seen and practiced in these terms!
